About

Graduating as a designer/maker over thirty years ago, (BA Hons Jewellery, Silversmithing & Allied Crafts, London Guildhall University) Izzy Wheeldon is also a qualified FE college tutor and has Early Years Teaching Status (PGCE).

While based in London during the early 90's, she gained experience working for jewellers Susan May, Roger Stone and Jill Newbrook as well as blacksmith Shelley Thomas.

A bursary offer took her to Lincolnshire in 1995 where she set up her workshop and also began running art workshops for children. A move to Newark led to teaching adults jewellery and art at Newark college, including creative art for adults with learning disabilities.

More recently, Izzy has been employed as a teaching assistant in primary schools, predominantly working with SEN children in early years and key stage 1.

Her training and employment in early years, ages 0-5, led to writing and illustrating a children's picture book called 'Clarence the Cockerel' (published 2020 by Grosvenor House); inspired by the idea that picture books can be a powerful tool for learning.

During 2025 she made the move back to silversmithing and produces her unique, hand-crafted jewellery from her studio in Nottinghamshire.

Izzy also teaches silversmithing and her jewellery making classes are based at the 'Art Smart' studio Newark, Nottinghamshire UK; where you may also find her leading art classes! Find out more about her jewellery classes here!

Her work is influenced by her faith, the UK coast, walks in the countryside and by rare, magical, sightings of deer and other wildlife. As well as using techniques such as forging and detailed piercings, her work explores the process of reticulation to create form and texture; a perfect contrast for beautiful tourmalines and other gemstones. Recent additions to her range of work include hand-crafted silver guitar plectrums. Find out more about her husband, Luthier and toolmaker, Andy Wheeldon on his website Caramillo
